The projects are in inland Sicily, where the reception centres are located.
It is in these locations that the path of integration with the local community begins.
The reception services include a range of activities aimed at skills enhancement through education, training and job placement.
By participating in the volunteer project, you will work with the staff, which migrants are also part of, dealing with:
LOCATION
The project takes place in Sicily, in two locations: in the Sicilian hinterland, in a small village in the province of Enna of 4000 inhabitants, and in Ragusa.
ARRIVAL AND TRAINING
You will arrive at Catania-Fontanarossa ‘Vincenzo Bellini’ airport.
BOARD AND LODGING
The accommodation, in the centre of the village, is organised in multiple rooms within the guesthouse.
A TYPICAL DAY
Below is an outline of a typical day for a volunteer.
09:00 | Breakfast
10:30 – 13:00 | Nursery, educational farm, ceramics workers, Italian lessons
13:30 | Lunch
16:00 – 17:00 | Nursery, educational farm, ceramic workers, Italian lessons
19:30 – 21:30 | Dinner
REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE
Be at least 18 years old.
MINIMUM LENGTH OF STAY
The minimum stay is 2 weeks. Volunteers can leave throughout the year and freely decide whether to stay at the project for a longer period. The advice of the YearOut staff is to stay at the project for a period of 4 weeks in order to make the volunteers’ intervention useful for both the community and themselves.
DONATION
The donation varies depending on the number of weeks of stay and the project chosen.
Your donation includes: food, accommodation, 24-hour staff support, financing of materials needed for activities, initial training.

FREE TIME
The small town in the Sicilian hinterland is a very pleasant place to visit. Nearby, you can visit the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, and the Greek theatre of Morgantina.
Ragusa, on the other hand, is an unspoilt place to discover both for its rich artistic heritage and its beautiful coastline and beaches.
